Merrileigh Sweet Dreams

(Valley Heights Hot Toddy x Nanteos Sweet Sensation)

Purchased as a weanling from her breeder Wendy Taylor in 2005, Merrileigh Sweet Dream was our very first Welshie,

and what a benchmark of real Welsh type and beauty she has proven herself to be.  Lovely correct conformation with a head to die for and a delightful temperament have combined in Dream to make her an extremely special mare.

Bred to our Section C stallion Lorien Aragorn Dream produced two gorgeous foals,

a buckskin filly Afallon's Princess Royal in 2009 followed by a stunning dark bay colt Afallon's Royal Sensation in 2010.

Her next two foals, also of beautiful quality, have been sired by Arawa Tane Mahuta (exp),

a buckskin colt Afallon's Vision Statement in 2011 and a red bay filly Afallon's Treasury of Dreams in 2012.

Along with her mother Nanteos Sweet Sensation, Dream will be leaving us once her current foal Treasure has been weaned,

to go to her new home at Raewyn Robertson's El Alpha Welsh Stud in Murchison.  All the best for Dream's future with you Raewyn,

she is a lovely mare and I am sure you will grow to treasure her as deeply as we do here at Afallon.

Nanteos Sweet Sensation

(Lochleas Prophet x Punga Sprig)

Wendy we will be forever grateful for the opporunity you gave us to help found our stud with this phenomenal mare.

Bred by the Barkers of Nanteos Stud, Sweet possesses beautiful balance and graceful, correct conformation

and has been an exceptional broodmare, consistently producing foals of outstanding quality. Sweet has indeed made an invaluable contribution to the founding of our little stud and we imagine her influence will be evident for years to come.

During her time with us Sweet has given us four beautiful fillies and this year a palomino colt, as follows:

Afallon's Queen of Hearts by Lorien Aragorn - 2008 chestnut Section C filly (sold to Golden Bay)

Afallon's Crown Jewel by Lorien Aragorn - 2009 chestnut Section C filly (retained by Afallon)

Afallon's Rhapsody in Gold by Arawa Tane Mahuta (exp) - 2010 palomino Section C filly (retained by Afallon)

Afallon's Sweet Reverie by Merrileigh Picasa - 2011 buckskin Section A filly (sold to Kaimai Welsh Stud)

Afallon's Legacy of Gold by Arawa Tane Mahuta (exp) - 2012 palomino Section C colt (retained by Afallon)

Sweet along with her daughter Dream will be heading South to her new home in Murchison

at El Alpha Welsh Stud when Legacy is weaned.  It has been a very difficult decision to part with the two exemplary mares,

only possible knowing they will be going to the best of homes, but they will retain a place in our hearts forever.

Merrileigh Peaches'n'Cream

(Lorien Aragorn x Nanteos Sweet Sensation)

Merrileigh Peaches'n'Cream, bred by Wendy Taylor and sold to Afallon as a weanling, introduced us to the Welsh Pony of Cob Type.

A half sister to our first Welsh pony the beautiful Section A filly Merrileigh Sweet Dream,

with her graceful elegance and natural presence combined with a larger, well boned physique,

Peaches stole our hearts and as she grew so did our dream of breeding our own Welsh Section C ponies.

As these dreams took shape we began to search for a Welsh Section C colt suitable to put over Peaches once she was of age.

Shortly after we had located a promising stud prospect in the eyecatching chestnut colt Sir Glyn of Brackenleigh,

Peaches own sire Lorien Aragorn was put on the market and with the purchase of these two young stallions

our dreams began to become a reality as Afallon Welsh Ponies was born.

As a three year old we put Peaches to Sir Glyn, and like her mother Sweet, Peaches has proved herself to be an invaluable broodmare.

Her first foal Afallon's Conquistador was a big boned chestnut colt sold as a weanling (gelded) to a lady wanting a future harness pony.

Unfortunately at this stage we had allowed our little stud to expand too quickly too soon - having by now purchased the outstanding Welsh Section D stallion Arawa Tane Mahuta and foaling five mares that same season -

and it became evident that in order to carry on at all it was urgent that we reduce our numbers.

So Peaches was offered to a long time admirer in Wainouiomata who purchased her once Conquistador was weaned, in foal to Tane.   Gratefully we were able to retain the first option on this foal as Peaches duly produced

an exceptional palomino filly Panorma Beaut Valley Girl in 2010.

Peaches was bred again, this time to a young Section A Afallon- bred stallion Prince Valiant of Afallon

and in 2011 Peaches once again produced a gorgeous palomino filly, Panorama Spring Fleur

Peaches has matured into a lovely mare of grace and quality.

All the best with Peaches into the future, Stacey; may she breed you many more such quality foals!

Lorien Aragorn

(Arawa Royal Mail x Lorien Erica)

Seeing Lorien Aragorn for the first time 'in the flesh' literally took my breath away.

Standing at 13.2hh with his striking, rich chestnut set off by his abundant flaxen mane and tail, his overall build an exciting combination of power and grace, photos struggle to capture the great beauty and the aura of dignity and pride of this magnificent stallion.

We valued Aragorn highly and bred him to the best of our Section A mares with the plan being

to begin building up our own future Section C breeding group.

Of these lovely, quality offspring, we are grateful to have been able to retain two beautiful daughters, a grand-daughter

and an exceptionally promising son, to carry on Aragorn's proud legacy in our stud.

Now in the ownership of Colleen Cameron of Little River Stud in Dargaville, Aragorn is continuing to leave beautiful offspring.

Arawa Tane Mahuta (exp Australia)

(Trirenon Cadet (imp UK) x Arawa Rose Aurora(imp/exp UK))

An outstanding stallion, we were privelleged to have Arawa Tane Mahuta with us for just over three years.

Purchased in the hopes that his impressive strengths and qualities would be imparted to his offspring, Tane surpassed our

expectations.  Unfortunately we were limited in how extensively we were able to use Tane and circumstances, conspiring against us, dictated his sale sooner than we would have liked.

Tane is a true gentleman, making him a pleasure to handle.

His movement is exceptional; ground covering, highly elevated with huge extension and very rhythmic.

Standing at 15hh, when put over our Section A mares his sons and daughters look like they will mature close to the full 13.2hh height limit for Section C's, and all have inherited Tane's fantastic movement and lovely, easy temperament.

Another 'plus' for us is Tane's lineage.  He carries the blood of a number of noteable Welsh Cobs including Royal Welsh Champions.

We believe his bloodlines will link well with our Aragorn offspring.

At the start of this year (2013) Tane set sail to his new home in Austrlia at Lana Crompton's Seawynd Stud, leaving three mares carrying his last precious NZ babies.  We wish Lana all the best with the exciting plans she has for this special stallion.
